Crazy day of filming! We shot the Leap crew’s part of the car chase at the end of the film. First off, I enlisted a friend of mine, Chelsea Raugust to play the part of Crystal. She has no previous experience, but she did a good job. We’ll see how she does with some real acting on Friday when we shoot again. I think I can coach her through it. My mom and sister came and picked me up today so I could get a new greenscreen. The one I have I’ve had for seven years and it’s turning yellow. The one I ended up getting today was a set of sheets from Walmart that cost about $15. AND they’re the right shade of green =D
Chelsea showed up at my place around 4:45pm today and we loaded the gear into her car and drove the half mile to our shooting location. I had initially planned on using my diffusion stand as a greenscreen stand, but it blew over so we ended up taping the greenscreen to the side of another actor’s car. We used the sun to light the screen evenly.
We started shooting at 5:30pm. I don’t know who had the tougher job, me or the actors. On one hand, they had to act like they were in the middle of a car chase when they were really in a parking lot. On the other, I had to try to keep their energy up since it really is a mundane scene to shoot (lean left, lean right, brakes, shift). We pulled through and I think I’ll be able to make it all work pretty well. By the end of the shoot today, we started loosing light, so I came up with the bright idea of having my actors sit on the ground in front of the screen so that they sun could light both them and the screen. Talk about making their job even harder! I felt kinda bad, and it means more work on my part, but it needed to be done to get the shots I needed. We then packed up and headed out.
Today’s footage is still converting, so I really don’t know how this is going to look, but I have complete faith that it’ll turn out. Again, God came through for the weather. It was overcast all morning and afternoon, not letting up until about an hour before we started filming. He rocks!
