A couple things. First, today’s blog is more of a checklist for me, so if non of this makes sense to anyone else reading it, that’s okay.
I’m making a list of required films that my crew will need to watch before we start shooting “Leap 2”.
In no particular order:
The Bourne Identity fights, look, camera, editing
The Bourne Ultimatum fights, look, camera, editing
Casino Royale chase, fights
District B13 chase
The Great Challenge parkour
The Mask of Zorro multiple storylines
I also need to start ripping scenes and compiling them onto a reference DVD for me to study. I haven’t done this for an actual production before, but I did do it with Robert Rodriguez’s film school extras. I made one DVD out of them and it’s nice having it all in one place. I figure, “hey, why not do it with my influences?”
From a writing standpoint, I feel like I’m struggling. I’m trying to craft a Christian film that feels like a blockbuster action movie. It’s a lot more difficult than I thought it’d be. Something that I think will help is having an old buddy from high school, Mat Strobeck, helping me out. He too has a martial arts background and expressed interest in helping with choreography for the fights. I’m all for it. Then I can focus on the pk and the other aspects of this style of filmmaking. Since Mat lives out of state, I’m going to see about having him videotape what he comes up with and upload them to my website where I can pull them, tweak if needed, and then teach my actors. Oh yeah, I have to teach them martial arts AND parkour now. Yay!
